“City to FC: Pulpy citrus, tropical fruit, beyond City+ show pluot, orange juice, ruby red grapefruit, guava top notes, moderate acidity, weighty body.” -Sweet Marias

The first sip is bright with citrus flavors, and acidity with a nice lingering finish. The acidity is bright at first, but it balances well with the fruit sweetness. The medium body has some weight to it, but it is also juicy and allows the fruit flavors to linger until the finish. The sweetness is smooth, and balances well against the acidity and fruit flavors.

Still at a medium temperature, the orange juice and grapefruit notes have come out, with the grapefruit note lingering in the finish, with a little pithy tartness. The fruit sweetness is still in the background, balancing with the acidity. The body is still juicy, but with it all being balanced, the only thing that really stands out is the brighter citrus flavors, which come on the front end, but there is also something like a cocoa hint that lingers after the finish. There was a moment where I thought I caught the pluot and guava notes, but it did not last long, but for a few minutes, there was a nice tropical sweetness. As it continued to cool, the bright citrus notes also cooled, and were much more balanced which gave the medium body a boost.

I liked the bright citrus notes on this roast, although they did not last long. The bright orange and grapefruit notes paired well with the sweetness and helped to balance the cup. There was acidity, but it wasn’t too bright, and the body was juicy from start to finish. The fruit notes were apparent from the beginning, and I liked the subtle hints of fruit that came through as it cooled. I enjoyed this roast, and I can see this being my first cup in the morning, with the fruit notes and spice. As for the roasting details, the roast was done in the Gene Cafe roaster, with a heat setting of 460 degrees, for 15 minutes. First crack started approximately around 12:30 minutes and continued for about 1.5 minutes. The roast was stopped at 14 minutes, as I did not want the beans coasting too far past City+. Cooling was done in the Gene, down to 215 degrees, and then removed and cooled in a colander until room temperature.
